Terrorism on a Cruise Ship?
The Carnival Magic was set to leave on Sunday for its “Low Carb Cruise” (personally, that sounds like an oxymoron to me, like “jumbo shrimp”, “adult male”, or “Microsoft Works”… but I digress).
Jack Kruse (no relation to Carnival Cruise), who is a proclaimed “diet guru,” was ready to set sail from Galveston Cruise Port when the FBI, Homeland Security, Coast Guard, and police got wind of a social media message indicating some foul play. The Twitter message was from an account with Kruse’s name and said “security confiscated dynamite. talk won’t be as explosive as one at PaleoFx. still have vial of Legionnaires for epic biohack. #lccruise12.”
Kruse was removed from the ship while the terror scare was being investigated. Authorities later found out that the authoring Twitter account was not actually Kruse’s, but from an account that was created to parody the diet guru and his questionable teachings. Kruse was eventually cleared, but not before the Magic left port. Carnival offered to fly him to the next stop on the itinerary to catch up with the niche cruise, but he declined. The full story can be found on cruisecritic.
Ship Mate passengers from this cruise were contacted and quoted as follows: “I’m hungry.”
